Nutrition Junction Articles -- Grow Your Own!

April showers bring not only May flowers, but also many healthy vegetables, too, right to your doorstep! How, you make ask? You can plant a garden in your own backyard. It does not have to be big. Even 3 square feet will do the trick to grow a little fresh produce. Apartment dwellers can grow fresh fruits and veggies quite successfully in containers.

Local garden centers offer inexpensive green house kits and seeds. You can start your seedlings inside and then move them outside once the danger of frost has passed. If that sounds too time consuming, your local garden center offers fruits and veggies ready to plant, so no seedlings for you to worry about. Home-grown veggies are free of pesticides that might be on store bought vegetables. Children are absolutely more likely to eat the fruit (no pun intended!) of their labors. And if you’ve never had peas or cucumbers or a tomato right off the vine, you are missing one of life’s great joys! There’s nothing like it!

Easy-to-grow veggies include cherry tomatoes, green beans, sugar snap peas, cucumbers and green peppers. These make a wonderful, fresh crisp snack. So start your own family garden today!
