Nutrition Junction Articles -- Drink Up This Summer
With summer just around the corner it is even more essential to keep your body hydrated. Drinking enough fluids, especially water, is so important as the weather gets warmer. Our body is constantly losing water. We can lose water by simply breathing! Did you know just by breathing you lose about 2 cups of water every day! And when we sweat we lose even more! You want your body to perform its best every day, and so make sure you drink plenty of water.
Here are some ways to stay hydrated:
Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go and snack on fresh fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, apples and pears! They are loaded with water.
If you are going to be exerting yourself outside for a long period of time, drink water before you become thirsty and at regular intervals. Some times, once you feel thirsty, your body is already somewhat dehydrated. Doing so can help you avoid muscle cramping later at night.
If you’re not a big water drinker, add a slice of orange or a wedge of lemon for a splash of flavor. Make sure to wash the rind before putting it in your water to make sure your drink is germ free.
Remember not to keep plastic bottled water sitting in a warm car or at room temperature once they are opened. Some plastics release chemicals after being opened and at warmer temperatures.
Sports drinks are loaded with calories and are only needed when you are exercising for more than an hour or more. So, drink the best fluid around--water!
